Towels, towels, towels - handwoven by the Weavers of Orlando

If you can't be at the picnic in April for the exchange, please send Berna Lowenstein $5 and your towels and samples before April 5th, and she'll mail your new towels and samples back to you.

Exchange Essentials:

Linen Towel Exchange

Exchange on: April 5th, 2007 meeting (the guild picnic)

It’s time to discover the joy of using linen towels. They are beautiful, absorbent, and easy to weave. For questions, call or mail Berna Lowenstein

  1. Please use 20/2 or 16/2 line linen in colors bleached white or half bleached.
  2. Do not buy the color “natural” as it is a very dark burlap color.
  3. 20/2 linen is the same size as 10/2 perle cotton, so it’s easy to weave.
  4. 16/2 linen is the same size as 8/2 perle cotton, so it’s a little thicker.
  5. Use any weave structure you like. Even lace weaves make great linen towels.
  6. Good choices are Huck, Huck Lace, Bronson, Bronson Lace, M’s and O’s, Twills, and even hand manipulated weaves like Leno and Brooks Bouquet.
  7. Fabric must be washed and ironed.
  8. Towels must be hemmed. No fringes.
  9. Please consider hemstitching your towels, since it is so decorative.
  10. Ex. Huck, Bronson, and any weave structure that gives plainweave, look good with hemstitching. M’s and O’s and Twills look better with a plain hem.
FINISHED SIZE

14 inches wide by 24 inches long.
Please make sure you consider shrinkage and draw in and hem size when calculating the width and length of your warp.

NUMBER of TOWELS

3 to exchange. (Make 4 if you want to keep one of yours.)

NUMBER of SAMPLES

One for each participant, plus one for the guild library.
Berna will announce the number of samples after everyone has signed up. No postage stamp sized samples, please. Make them large enough to feel and see.

WHERE to BUY

The Yarn Barn, Kansas has both 20/2 and 16/2 linen yarns.
(Note: There are several stores called The Yarn Barn, and you want the one in Kansas.)
There are also other stores, take a look at the Links section.
